I have seen many infomercials and print ads for department stores advertising memory foam mattresses. The thing that confuses me is the disparity in the way that various brands (or generic brands) of memory foam are marketing – I'm talking about their price points. Some memory foam mattresses are marketed to the high end consumer and can cost several hundred dollars while others are priced just under $100 or in the case of Walmart, it is much less.
Speaking from experience we forked over the money for a memory foam mattress and with in the first year it is caved in right in the middle. So I am thinking a mattress topper would be the better way to go because it is cheaper and with the regular mattress underneath it maybe it wouldn't cave in. A full mattress isn't worth the money so try this first.
Marvin is right, there are a lot of different brands out there and the cheaper are just that cheap. When you are buying a mattress it is best to remember that you get what you pay for. And I can't help but wonder if that was the problem with William's mattress. Was it an off brand or was it one of those Therapeutic mattresses made out of that foam from NASA?
I liked our foam mattress but the mattress I like more is the sleep number bed where you are basically sleeping on air. Our foam mattress broke down in under a year and I truly think it was because we couldn't afford the more expensive name brand kind at the time. If I was asked to try a new foam mattress that was the more expensive one I would.
I have been seeing these infomercials during late night TV programming about this special foam pillow that is guaranteed to conform to your shape and help you get the best night's sleep of your life. The pillow costs over two hundred dollars and I must say that I have my doubts about whether any foam pillow is worth that kind of money. Perhaps a mattress might be worth several hundred dollars. After all, some cost a grand.
Oh my goodness Rita I haven't seen that commercial yet, what is the name of this pillow? I can't believe that they would charge that much for a pillow that is just ridiculous to say the least. There is the pillow that I want that is called the side sleeper and it is curved so it is easy to hold onto and sleep on your side but It is only $20.00 much more affordable.
I read all the reviews on the Sleep Better 3-Inch Visco Elastic Memory Foam Mattress and was worried about sizing for my King bed. When I recieved it and rolled it out it was definitely short on all sides, but just as it is compressed when it arrives thickness wise I figured it was compressed length and width wise…so I proceeded to pull it from all angles and it grew to the size of the bed.
I am considering going with the Temper pedic foam mattress instead of a topper because I think it would last longer. That is nothing against your topper though, it sounds like it would be great. I wonder how many years you could have a full mattress before you would have to buy a topper for it anyway? This was a great article thank you for a great job.
This article was written up in a very professional manner. I didn't see though where you told everyone where they could get a good deal on the Purasleep topper. Is this information that you have or should I just continue to browse the internet for them?
Do they make these in hospital type beds? I am looking for something more comfortable for my grandfather who is in a nursing home and I think if they make that size mattress that can be elevated at the head and feet it would be a big help to him. I haven't seen any but I am doing some research and thought I would ask.
I've had one of these for about 5 years now and I love it. It really helps me sleep because it truly conforms to the curves of your body. You have done a great job on your review and the Purasleep is number one in mattress toppers for sure. Thank you for the added information I appreciate it. I'm trying to convince my 70 year old mother that this is what she needs as well.
William I have wondered about those sleep number beds but that is not a foam mattress and I really don't think that we should discuss them on a blog for foam mattresses. Maybe one of us should post an article about them so we can discuss it freely.
How did they first think of this memory foam anyway? I have heard stories that it came from NASA because the astronauts use this same kind of foam in space. I don't know if that is true or not. I like the idea that they started thinking outside the box on this stuff and trying to save us money but offering up a topper at a cheaper price than a mattress.
