Cosmetic Surgery Prices Prove That Beauty Does Not Come Cheap
Cosmetic surgery can be traced back to around 2000 BC in India. Back then, it was referred to as reconstructive surgery which was performed by Sushruta, known as the father of Indian surgery. His techniques made vital contributions to the field of cataract and cosmetic surgery in 6th century BC. Around the 1st century BC, ancient Romans and Egyptians also performed simple operations, such as repairing ears that were damaged. Cosmetic surgery prices, however, probably did not have a large monetary value.
John Peter Mettauer was the first American surgeon who, in the early 1800s was rewarded for performing the very first cleft palate operation with surgical instruments that he created. In the early 1900s, Sir Harold Gilles, a New Zealand otolarygologist developed many successful techniques of modern plastic surgery which was used primarily for World War one soldiers who sustained facial injuries. Cosmetic surgery prices again, did not weigh heavy on the wallet, although the risk to life itself was high.
Today, cosmetic surgery has taken on a whole new dimension. According to ASAPS the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, almost ten million nonsurgical and surgical cosmetic procedures where performed in the United States in 2009.
Also in 2009, women subjected themselves to approximately 9 million surgical procedures that included abdominoplasty, breast augmentation, breast reduction, eyelid surgery and liposuction.
Men, on the other hand, subjected themselves to only 900,000 cosmetic surgery procedures in 2009 that included breast reduction to counter enlarged male breasts, hair transplantation, eyelid surgery, liposuction and rhinoplasty. If you are not familiar with the prices and procedures, this article will take a closer look at a few of the most popular surgeries being performed by plastic surgeons.
For surgery on the body, the following procedures remain popular and very profitable: Abdominoplasty, also known as the tummy tuck, helps reshape and firm the abdomen. Breast augmentation, known as breast implants, helps to increase a woman’s breast size while providing better shape and support. Breast reduction helps to reduce the size of a womans breasts to help ease shoulder and back pain. Buttock lift, better known as butt implant, enhances the size and shape of the buttocks using implants made of silicone or grafting of fat transferred from other fatty areas of the body. Liposuction removes unwanted fat from areas of the body to include arms, abdomen, legs and buttock.
For surgical procedures on the face, these are performed numerous times on a daily basis: Botox injections smooth or minimize lines on the face. Chemical peels minimize the appearance of acne, scars and wrinkles. Lip enhancement improves the fullness of the mouth with either upper lip, lower lip or both lips injected. Rhinoplasty, otherwise known as a nose job, helps reshape and redesign the nose. Otoplasty, better known as ear pinning, helps reshape the ears. Chin augmentation, also referred to as chin implants, helps reshape the face and give it more definition. Of course, there is the facelift that actually lifts the skin to provide a more youthful, fresh appearance.
No matter what surgery you choose, it comes with a price. Expensive? Yes. But it is not just money that makes it high priced. The recovery time with many procedures takes week even months. However, statistics show that cosmetic surgery has grown into a 10 billion dollar a year industry. That proves that people are willing to pay the price for youth and beauty.
